What's
your favorite Porsche?
Which ever one I happen to be driving
at the moment. Like a vertical tasting of a great wine, each Porsche
'vintage' is unique yet vitally connected to the next. Early cars
provide an intimacy with the road that would be considered insane
today. 85 mph in a Speedster is twice as fast as 120 in a new
Maxima. And when your realize the speeds these cars were driven
and under what conditions, it is nothing less than astounding.
And as for innovation, as defined by the introduction of novel
design, surely the early cars are equals to their later siblings.
Their technology was being invented and applied almost simultaneously.
Their heirs, the ever refining legendary 900 series is a linear
record of engineering's advance in the last half century. Each
decade produced classics which remain impressive in their gut
wrenching capabilities.
